If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross.
Matthew 16:24

The law of survival is your most deeply ingrained instinct. Christ, however, teaches us the law of non-survival. No one survives crucifixion.

When Christ was crucified, it cost Him His life. When you choose to follow Christ, it will cost you your life.

For this reason, Jesus compared following Him to taking up your cross. The deliberate choosing of the cross daily is part of our call to follow Christ.

If you think clearly right now, you will most likely be able to discover some area in your life in which Christ is inviting you to take up your cross, to deny yourself and follow Him. We are, after all, followers of Christ who teaches us firsthand the law of non-survival.

Father God, I humble myself, exalt Christ and embrace the law of non-survival.

This daily Christ-encountering, fire-starter is not intended to replace your daily Bible reading and prayer time, but rather to motivate you to spend extended time in His presence.
